The Lake County Board of County Commissioners made a significant decision to enhance the community of Sorrento by constructing a state-of-the-art multi-purpose park. Completed in 2019, this expansive park boasts soccer fields, baseball fields, softball fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, and a vibrant children's playground.
What sets this park apart is its thoughtful design concept—a nod to Sorrento's rich history rooted in horse ranches and equestrian training. The park buildings, including a 2-story baseball field concession/restroom building with a second-floor press box, a trailhead restroom/concession building, and a soccer field restroom/concession building, were meticulously crafted in an equestrian style to pay homage to the local traditions.
Currently, Powell Studio Architecture is at the helm of the final phase, adding a 14,000-square-foot library to the complex. True to the park's aesthetic, the library will seamlessly blend with the existing structures.
Beyond its architectural significance, the library is poised to become a hub for knowledge and community engagement, offering meeting rooms and a collection of no fewer than 30,000 volumes. This thoughtful addition is designed to cater to the educational needs of the nearby school and serve as a welcoming destination for visitors to the athletic facility.
