Lake County, in collaboration with the Green Mountain Scenic Byway, partnered with Powell Studio Architecture and GAI | Community Solutions Group to create an eco-friendly passive park, serving as a dedicated nature preserve situated off C.R. 455 near Ferndale. The North Shore Overlook and Trailhead project, generously funded by an FDOT grant, offers guests incredible views of Lake Apopka and the surrounding area.
Powell Studio Architecture designed the three structures on site, which include a pavilion, restroom facility, and an awe-inspiring scenic overlook tower. From this vantage point, visitors can marvel at the breathtaking views of the Ferndale Preserve, immersing themselves in the diverse wildlife and flourishing vegetation that characterize the surrounding area.
At the pinnacle of the tower, an expansive 20’ x 20’ covered gathering and educational space awaits, creating a unique setting for community engagement and learning. A thoughtfully designed stairway gracefully descends from the tower to the base, seamlessly connecting with the north shore trail. This integration enhances accessibility and encourages exploration, ensuring a harmonious blend of recreational and educational experiences for park visitors.
